The Douglas Legacy 1.0

When Jack was young, barely into his teens, he went on a boating trip with his parents. It was the first family vacation for the family, who typically had to struggle to make ends meet. That fateful day, however, was not a lucky one for the Douglas family.

The day ended in tragedy when the boat crashed against a reef beneath the water, killing both of Jack's parents. The coastguard fished Jack out of the water and he was placed in a foster home. The shock of the sudden death of his parents was too much for him though and he often ran away. He went from foster home to foster home and eventually grew up in a home for troubled teens.

When he eventually became a young adult and was able to move out on his own he learned that the property that his family home had been on was still his! The house had long ago been condemned and torn down, but he still at least had some land he could call his own.

Jack spent what little money the state provided for him on a few necessities like a bed and fridge. He had to scrape together every penny he had to get them and they were just sitting on the property with nothing to protect them, but Jack loved the outdoors so it didn't really bother him too much. He was very adaptable.

His next focus was to get a job. He had to have something to make money at so that he could build himself a home. He missed having a family very much and knew that he wanted to have a wife and as many children as possible right away, but what could he do? He thought back to his childhood, before his parents died and he remembered a lifelong dream he'd had back then to be an athlete.

He immediately went to the stadium tryouts and he was lucky enough to get recruited!

He decided to jog to the community pool from the stadium so that he could start working on his athletic ability right away.

After the pool, Jack jogged to the gym for a quick shower, knowing that he just didn't have the funds to buy one for home just yet.

Then he went to the community garden since it was on his way home. He wanted to harvest some vegetables and look for some seeds there so that he could save some money on his grocery bill. When he got there he was stopped dead in his tracks by the site of a beautiful redhead.

He walked up and introduced himself to her. They chatted for what seemed like ages. Her name was Ruby Broke and right away Jack was smitten with her.

He went to visit her at her house the next day. They talked on the porch for awhile and then she invited him inside.

He was really tired from work and starting his garden, but he didn't care. Being near Ruby was better than sleep any day!

Jack was definitely caught up in the moment, in her humble home surrounded by her brothers and sisters, parents, aunts and uncles. Jack had never experienced anything like that. Both of his parents were only children and his grandparents had died before he was born.

Jack proposed to Ruby! His heart was full of nothing but her. He knew she was the one he wanted to spend his life with and no amount of waiting could change that.

They had a really quick ceremony right there in the doorway of Ruby's parents home since there was no way neither Jack nor Ruby's family could pay for a big ceremony.

Jack and Ruby went back to their property afterwards and enjoyed their honeymoon night.

Ruby came from such humble beginnings that living out in the open that way didn't seem very strange to her so she had no objections to starting a family right away.

They were able to begin work on building a house with the tiny bit of funds that Ruby brought with her so they finally finished their bathroom and got started on the kitchen.

That night, however, some ne'er-do-well sneaked on their insecure property and stole their sink! Jack was normally quite a brave fellow and would have attacked the burglar in an instant, but he was just too exhausted. The burglar was there and gone before he was awake enough to realize what was going on.

Ruby was definitely expecting their first child so Jack tended his garden faithfully and also saved money on books by going to the library and reading them there rather than buying them himself. Slowly their house began to take shape, though it was far from an architectural masterpiece.

By the time Ruby went into labor they at least had a finished kitchen/living area. Jack was too freaked out by the prospect of his first child to be of any real use to Ruby during the birth. One thing for sure, there was no way they could afford a hospital bill so they had to opt out of going to the hospital for the little one to be born.
